At the Mansfield Food Pantry, we are deeply grateful for the generosity of our supporters. Every gift you make helps ensure our neighbors have access to nutritious food and compassionate assistance. Contributions to our organization can look different from person to person, but for some, a donation through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can be a meaningful way to support the Pantry while also incorporating charitable giving into your financial and tax planning.

What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution, commonly known as a QCD, allows eligible individuals aged 70 1⁄2 and older to make a charitable contribution directly from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified nonprofit organization, such as the Mansfield Food Pantry.

A QCD can turn retirement assets into an immediate local impact—helping provide food and assistance to our neighbors today while potentially offering tax benefits to you.

Why Consider a QCD?

For many donors, a QCD offers several important benefits:

  • Support a meaningful cause. Your gift provides food and essential assistance to local individuals and families facing food insecurity.

  • Potential tax benefits. A QCD may reduce taxable income because the donated amount is generally not included as income on your federal or Massachusetts state tax return.

  • Satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). Eligible donors can use a QCD to meet all or part of their annual RMD requirement.

  • Give directly and efficiently. The transfer is made directly from your IRA custodian to the Mansfield Food Pantry, simplifying the process.

Your Gift Makes a Direct Local Impact

For the Pantry, your generosity supports our work to fight hunger and strengthens our ability to serve our neighbors in need in the years ahead.

Your generosity helps us:

  • Purchase nutritious food for local families and individuals

  • Maintain a reliable supply of Pantry staples and fresh items

  • Provide resources for essential Pantry operations

  • Respond quickly when community needs increase

  • Plan for the Pantry's future, including facility improvements and long term-sustainability

How to Make a QCD

If you are age 70 ½ or older and would like to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution, contact your IRA custodian or financial institution and request that the distribution be sent directly to:

Our Daily Bread Mansfield Food Pantry Inc

Federal Tax ID (EIN): 87-4457708

Mailing Address: 15A West Street, Mansfield MA 02048

It is also important that you contact the Pantry to let us know when a QCD has been initiated. This helps us match your donation correctly and ensures we can provide accurate year-end tax receipts for your records.

Year-End Reminder: To ensure your Qualified Charitable Distribution is completed for the current tax year, we encourage you to initiate your request well before December 31. Processing times vary by IRA custodian, and year-end is their busiest period. If you have questions about timing, please consult your IRA custodian or financial advisor.

Because individual tax situations vary, we encourage donors to consult with a financial advisor, tax professional, or IRA custodian to determine how a QCD may apply to their personal circumstances.

Thank You for Caring for Our Community

Your commitment to the Mansfield Food Pantry provides nourishment, stability, and hope to our local residents in need. Qualified Charitable Distributions are one more way you can make a lasting impact while also including a thoughtful giving strategy in your financial planning.

Thank you for partnering with us to build a stronger, healthier, and hunger-free community.
